Mom and Don Come to Visit!

Monday, March 18, 2013

We were lucky enough a few weeks ago to have my parents come to visit!

We had an action packed weekend and enjoyed every minute! Jason and I even had some days off to use up so it worked perfectly!

Saturday afternoon they arrived to see me in action at a work event I was coordinating. They graciously helped me clean up so we could get to town and parrrrrty!

We went to South Congress and walked around awhile, stopped by Uncommon Objects, Mom and I bought pretty earrings from a local vendor beffore we headed to the food trucks for dinner.

The food trucks were a little difficult since a few were closed, a few were out of food, and when we finally found food they took forever. So needless to say it wasn't perfect, but it was probably a realistic experience for a Saturday night at the South Congress food trucks. But we had fun anyways! And of course, we ended the night with Jason's favorite, Hey Cupcakes. Mom and Don were definitely fans.

Sunday, we went to church, where I spoke in Sacrament and then Mom came to Young Women with me.

That afternoon after making our signature salad for them, we headed to Mt. Bonnell for some great views of Austin and for Don and I to practice our photography skills. It was a nice day but by the end we were hot!

After hiking around, we were hungry so we headed to the Oasis for the views and Mexican food! Overall we were very impressed with the awesome location and the food was good! (contrary to what I had heard). It was pricier but worth it to be outside on a Spring evening relaxing .

The lake is a little low :)

Really cool tiered restaurant

Jason's enchiladas

On Monday, we headed to New Braunfels to wander around and have lunch at the Gristmill. We were technically in Gruene (pronounced Green).
They had cute antique shops and some fun general stores.
We also visited the Harley store here but I didn't get any pictures.

Then we headed to the Gristmill for lunch, where of course, we got virgin Pina Coladas. Mom and Don know how to party :)

They are famous for their onion rings for a reason! Amazing!! Definitely get them if you go here! We really enjoyed the entire restaurant-food, service and the ambiance.
Great pick Mom!

Just a really beautiful restaurant, inside and out,
plus you can see the Guadalupe River down below.

After lunch we headed to the Gruene Dance Hall. Lots of famous country stars have performed here like George Strait and there is a famous scene from the movie Michael that was filmed here also.

Apparently this place is packed at night but definitely not at 2pm on a Monday.
Jason and I tested out the dance floor though :)

The next day Mom and I got to go shopping while the boys stayed home and it was great! We had a blast at Ross and even bought matching shirts!

We had a barbeque adventure in Taylor before they headed back to Dallas!
We had a fabulous trip with them! Come back and visit anytime!!
Love y'all!
