The Girl Effect

I wanted to share a little of my passion with you today.

My capstone class has given such an opportunity to do research and become informed on more information regarding education, international development, and women.

Did you know that diarrhea is one of the top three causes of death in the world?
Did you know that 1.2 billlion people in the world live on less than a dollar a day?
Did you know that the poorest 40% of the world's population accounts for only 5% of global income?

Do you know that a major determinant of development and growth within in a country is how a country treats its women? Countries with educated women, lower rates of domestic violence, and greater women's rights will have higher economic growth, a healthier overall population and higher life expectancy.

I also gave a presentation specifically on education. One of the most important ideas surrounding education is the improtance of educating women and girls. By educating a mother she will improve the health of her family, attain higher incomes and spend 90% of those incomes on her family. Educating girls and women is key to development!!

Anyways, its less important for me to keep talking and more important for you to watch this 3 minute video that is awesome and will totally open your eyes. Please watch it! You won't regret it!

  2. I totally believe that! That's like in some countries they target and kill girls who are trying to get educated because they know that if they empower women things will change!!! Go girls!
